What We're Working On

Real updates on our progress deploying emergency connectivity across Texas — no fluff, just where things stand.

11 Starlink Units Staged — Outreach Underway with Hill Country Fire Departments

Texas DisasterLink now has 11 Starlink Mini units staged and ready for deployment, along with tactical carrying cases and vehicle power adapters for each unit. We've begun reaching out directly to volunteer fire chiefs across Kerr, Kendall, Bexar, and Menard counties to review our no-cost deployment agreement (MOU) ahead of first placements.

We're also finalizing general liability insurance coverage — the last step before any unit changes hands — to make sure every deployment is properly protected for both TDL and the receiving department.

Texas DisasterLink Earns Candid Gold Seal of Transparency

We're proud to have earned the Candid Gold Seal of Transparency, a recognition given to nonprofits that provide a high level of detail about their programs, finances, and governance on their Candid profile. As a young organization, transparency with our supporters and partners is a top priority from day one.

Expanding Our Fleet: Nine Additional Starlink Mini Units Purchased

Building on the two units we started with, Texas DisasterLink purchased nine additional Starlink Mini units in May 2026 — bringing our total deployable fleet to 11. Every unit is funded through founder-provided interest-free loans while we build out our grant and donor base.

How Texas DisasterLink Began

On July 4th, 2025, catastrophic flooding hit the Texas Hill Country. Cell towers went down across remote parts of Kerr County, cutting off first responders from command and from each other in the middle of an active rescue. Founder Richard Moreland drove his personal Starlink unit to the scene so responders could get back online.

That moment became Texas DisasterLink. We were incorporated as a Texas nonprofit corporation on July 10, 2025, and received our federal 501(c)(3) determination shortly after. Our mission: make sure no Texas community loses its connection to help when it matters most.
